Ign's Verdict

I wish I could convey in words just how good Devil May Cry 3 really is. I know that I've already gone on for three pages with reasons why I think you should care about it, but I'm not sure if I've done it enough justice. Just believe me when I say that Dante's Awakening has everything. It has the fun, the depth, and the look. It has the reason to skip school, the reason to call in sick to work, and the reason to reconsider that Friday night date. It has five difficulty settings (all challenging, most insane), plenty of secret missions, unlockable bonuses and costumes, an easy to use interface, and more brain-twisting puzzles than the first two games combined. In other words, it's the reason you bought a PlayStation 2, now go and enjoy it. (IGN rating 9.6)

From a reviwer named GamingTrend:

While Devil May Cry 3 is starting to show its age, it still holds its title as one of the best character action games ever made. The new additions add a refreshing twist on this classic game, while still retaining its difficulty and depth. And who knows, after so many re-releases and playthroughs, maybe people will notice how meaningful and well told the story is.(gave it a 9.5)

Rex-Rei's review:

A tuned version of the best ps2 games, with the addition of a new playable character e new mechanics. Gameplay, soundtrack, graphics, art, story and characters are at their peak! One of the best hack and slash of all time, stylish from start to finish!(gave it a 10)

BonusStage review:

Sure, many of the bonus features could’ve been beefed up a bit more, but considering you’re getting the same masterful Devil May Cry 3 package with solid new content at a bargain basement price, there’s absolutely no reason not to go out and treat yourself to this action classic right away, whether you own the original already or not.(rating 9.5)

Gamebrink's review:

Has everything an action game fan would like: Incredible relentless gameplay, great graphics, and this time a bunch of new features including playing as the powerful Vergil. (rating 9.4)

Personal Rating

My personal take on the game is it is one of the best hack and slashers of its time of release it contends with GOW but I have to say the series of combos and different styles you can encorpurate into your gameplay is amazing and your choice of weaponary is some of the best in the series. The boss fights are tough but fun and the replay ability on them is such a great feautre not to meantion the story of the game for it being a prequel to the first game really does it justice on a new playthrough of the game each time I beat it I have the want to run through the other games again. The graphics are not the best in modern standards but during the Ps2 days there were phenominal and today they are still so nostagic. The other thing I love about the game is you can play as Dante's twin brother Vergil and see a different side to the story just like the other games that allow you to play as Vergil. This game is a great starter in to the series as a whole so if you were ever curious I would pick this one up first. Overall I would have to give it a solid 9 for the rating. Only because for its time it was so great but with the release of DMC 5 couple of years back it doesnt compare to the modern game both graphics and mechanics wise.
